Aluminium glass refers to glass panels framed, supported, or enclosed in aluminium frames. The combination leverages the structural strength, lightness and corrosion resistance of aluminium with the transparency, aesthetics and versatility of glass.

This pairing is ubiquitous in modern construction and is used across a huge range of applications: windows, doors, office partitions, shop fronts, curtain walling, roof glazing, balustrades and more. The aluminium frame provides the rigid structural support while the glass provides the visual connection between spaces and allows natural light to flow freely.

Modern aluminium glass systems often incorporate thermally broken profiles — a layer of non-conductive material within the aluminium frame — to improve insulation performance significantly. Combined with double or triple glazing, these systems can achieve excellent thermal and acoustic performance comparable to other framing materials.

Aluminium windows in Kenya range in price from approximately KES 3,000 to KES 8,000+ per square meter, depending on a number of factors:

  • Window type: Sliding windows tend to be the most affordable; casement and tilt-and-turn systems are priced higher due to their more complex hardware.
  • Glass specification: Single glazing is cheapest; double glazed units with argon fill cost more. Laminated, tinted, reflective or solar control glass adds further cost.
  • Powder coat colour: Standard white or silver costs less than custom RAL colours which require specialist ordering.
  • Frame profile: Standard-weight extrusions cost less than heavy-duty commercial profiles.
  • Size and complexity: Larger or non-standard shapes require more material and fabrication time.

While aluminium windows offer outstanding durability, low maintenance and an elegant aesthetic, they do have some considerations worth being aware of:

  • Thermal conductivity: Aluminium is a metal and naturally conducts heat. Standard (non-thermally broken) aluminium frames can transfer heat and cold between inside and outside. However, modern thermally broken aluminium profiles incorporate a non-conductive barrier within the frame, dramatically reducing this effect and achieving performance comparable to uPVC.
  • Higher upfront cost: Aluminium windows typically cost more than uPVC equivalents upfront. However, their 30–50 year lifespan and near-zero maintenance requirements make them considerably more cost-effective over time.
  • Weight: Aluminium frames are heavier than uPVC, which can be a consideration in some structural applications — though this also contributes to their strength and rigidity.
  • Condensation: On older non-thermally broken frames in cold climates, condensation can form on the interior face. In Kenya's climate, this is rarely an issue.

For the Kenyan climate — warm temperatures, strong sunlight and occasional heavy rain — aluminium windows are generally the superior choice, offering UV resistance, corrosion resistance and structural performance that uPVC or timber cannot match long-term.

No — aluminium and glass are entirely distinct materials with different compositions, properties and manufacturing processes.

Aluminium is a metallic element (symbol Al) refined from bauxite ore. It is lightweight, strong, corrosion-resistant and highly recyclable.

Glass is primarily made from silica sand (silicon dioxide, SiO₂), soda ash and limestone, melted at very high temperatures and then cooled.

The term aluminium glass is a construction industry term that describes the combination of aluminium structural frames with glass infill panels — they work together but are manufactured entirely separately. When people refer to "aluminium glass windows" or "aluminium glass partitions," they mean aluminium-framed products that incorporate glass panels.

It is worth noting that small amounts of aluminium compounds are sometimes used in the glass manufacturing process as a raw material to modify certain properties, but this is a trace component — the glass itself remains primarily silica-based.

Aluminium is one of the most durable building materials available. With proper installation and minimal maintenance, aluminium windows, doors and facades can last 30 to 50 years or more — often outlasting the building's other components.

Key factors that contribute to aluminium's longevity:

  • Natural oxide layer: Aluminium forms a protective oxide layer when exposed to air that prevents further corrosion — unlike steel, it does not rust.
  • Powder coating: A quality powder coat finish adds a further layer of protection against UV radiation, weathering and physical damage, typically warranted for 15–25 years.
  • No rot or warping: Unlike timber, aluminium does not rot, warp, shrink or swell with changes in humidity or temperature.
  • Resistance to pests: Termites and other wood-boring insects cannot damage aluminium.

Powder coating is a dry finishing process in which a free-flowing, dry powder — typically a thermoplastic or thermoset polymer — is electrostatically applied to a metal surface and then cured under heat to form a hard, smooth, highly durable coating.

Compared to conventional liquid paint, powder coating offers significant advantages:

  • Superior durability: The cured finish is much harder and more resistant to scratching, chipping, and impact than paint.
  • Corrosion resistance: Powder coated aluminium is highly resistant to rust, oxidation and chemical attack.
  • UV stability: Quality architectural-grade powder coatings resist fading and chalking in UV sunlight for 15–25 years.
  • Colour choice: Available in the complete RAL colour range — from classic white and anthracite grey to any custom colour — in gloss, satin, matt and textured finishes.
  • Environmentally friendly: Powder coating contains no solvents and releases negligible VOCs compared to liquid paint.

All AluminiumGlass products are finished with heavy duty powder coating, applied to our exacting quality standards for maximum longevity and appearance.

Yes — all AluminiumGlass products and installations come with warranty coverage. Our standard warranties are:

  • Powder coating finish: Minimum 15-year warranty against significant fading, chalking or peeling under normal conditions.
